Know About North Sikkim

Achung at a height of 8610 feet is an exquisite valley town, resplendent in its crow of snowcapped mountain,s breathtaking waterfalls and sparkling streams. It has been described as the ‘most picturesque village of Sikkim’ by Joseph Dalton in his ‘Himalayan Journal’ (1855).


Yumthang

(11,800ft ) is where the tree line ends and the rhododendron groves cover the landscape in a surreal shade. Also called the Valley of Flowers as in spring wild alpine flowers carpet the land. Yumthang is also well known for its hot springs, which have healing medicinal properties.
A hot spring located on the right side of Yumthang river is a popular tourist attraction. In addition to a vast green meadow, lush green forest abounding in pine and Silver Fir trees through the place. While driving towards the valley, one can see cascading waterfalls and streams.


Chugthang

Located near the confluence of Lachung chu at the starting point of River Teesta, is also the bifurcation point for two historic passes of Lachan and Lachung. The small but attractive valley town is believed to have been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava. His foot prints can be seen next to a Gurudwara.


Lachen

Lachan meaning the ‘big pass’ is situated at an altitude of about 2 hours drive from Lachung and 6hrs drive from Dongmar Lake. It is scenic Lachen village starts from ‘Denangya’ near Munshithang and ends at Cho Lhamu- the source of River Teesta. The settlement dates back to the 16th Century. It is belived that Lachen is placed on he chest of the Goddess “Dhomai Rheas”, who feeds the village with a perennial source of water, visible even today.


Thangu

Situated at an altitude of 13,500 ft., it is about 2 hours drive from Lachan. Visitors can halt for acclimatization at Tourism Department Guest House before proceeding to Gurudongmar Lake, Muguthang or Cho Lhamu.


Yumesamdong

Yumesamdong, the mystic valley of Sikkim (15,300ft) where the sweet fragrance of Ezilia (used as incense) permeates the air.


Guru Dongmar lake

(17,100 ft)- a sacred lake, the waters are believed to possess the miraculous power of granting issues to barren couples. The lake freezes during winter except at one spot believed to be specially blessed by Guru Rimpoche.
